Grief Recovery Method : Tested & True!

Grief Recovery Institute was founded in the mid 1980’s, by John W. James and Russell Friedman. The program has expanded to provide support to grievers from coast-to-coast, border-to-border in the United States and Canada. In addition, we have affiliates in Sweden, the United Kingdom, Australia, and most recently Mexico.

The purpose: The goal of the grief Recovery Method is to help complete the relationship to the pain, isolation, and loneliness caused by significant emotional loss. While death and divorce may seem to be the most obvious losses, these sessions are not limited to those losses.

There are more than 40 life events that can produce feelings of grief.

Based on over 40 years of practice dealing with grief and working one on one with grievers, the GRM program helps reduce grief by teaching grievers new skills on how to cope and process grief (knowledge); how to confront old myths or unhelpful patterns of grieving (attitudes); how to examine the ways in which grief has impacted their life through detailed assignments and exercises (beliefs); and how to let go of pain from loss through the timely identification of apologies, forgiveness, and significant emotional statements, all within a helpful, supportive environment (behaviors of grief recovery).
